Quarterback comparisons are common in both the NFL and college football, often sparked by impressive throws, key performances, or standout traits. However, a select few NFL quarterbacks—like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Aaron Rodgers—are considered the gold standard.
That’s what makes former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman’s recent comments about Dak Prescott particularly notable. The NFL analyst and Hall of Famer caught attention when he compared Prescott to not just one, but two of these elite names.
“A quarterback can put the ball in places where the receiver doesn’t need to be exceptional to make the play, or get into plays that give the team the best chance,” Aikman said.
“We’ve seen this from Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, and others over the years. I believe we’ve seen it from Dak as well.”
Prescott showcased some of that Mahomes-like ability in the Cowboys’ Week 5 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
After a rough start with three turnovers, including two in the red zone, Prescott rallied late, leading two fourth-quarter scoring drives and throwing the game-winning touchdown with just 20 seconds left.
Aikman’s comparison of Prescott to Mahomes and Rodgers is high praise, highlighting his talent for elevating his teammates’ performance—a key factor in the Cowboys’ decision to make him the NFL’s highest-paid player.
