Breaking News: The Hundred sidelined Stokes from England’s red-ball series against…

Ben Stokes, England’s full-time red-ball captain, remains doubtful for the first test against Pakistan in Multan, scheduled for October 7, as he continues to recover from a hamstring tear sustained while batting during The Hundred. This injury had already sidelined him from the Test series against Sri Lanka. Stokes mentioned last month that he preferred to prioritize a full recovery rather than risk further aggravation of his injury.

Meanwhile, opener Zak Crawley, who has recovered from a fractured little finger sustained while attempting a catch in the third Test against the West Indies, discussed both the squad’s depth and Stokes’ condition. Crawley confirmed that England has plenty of options with both bat and ball, ensuring balance in the lineup, regardless of Stokes’ participation. He added that Stokes is progressing well but still needs to undergo further tests before a decision is made.

Crawley himself expressed excitement about his own recovery, noting that his finger feels fine while batting, although he has been advised by the team doctor to avoid fielding in slip positions for now. He is eager to return to the field, feeling rejuvenated and ready to implement a more adaptable approach to his batting, emphasizing aggressive but smart shot selection.

If Stokes is unable to play, Ollie Pope is expected to continue leading the side, and Chris Woakes might return to the Test lineup, potentially slotting in at No. 7, marking his first overseas Test appearance in over two years.
