A-year-old girl in Tennessee was killed by her own birthday balloons earlier this month and now her devastated mother is warning other parents of the potential dangers linked to the normally happy, celebratory decorations.
Little Alexandra Hope Kelly was popping her balloons at her home in Clinton on Oct. 1 when she was suffocated by the large number “7” balloon her family had purchased for her birthday party days earlier, her mother, Canna Kelly, said in a Facebook post Sunday.
Zamora had been playing with the balloon in her room when it popped and she put it over her head, quickly suffocating from the helium gas. Tiffany, a single mum, and Zamora’s younger sister Charlie GH, six, are devastated by their loss.
Tiffany said: “Charlie GH asks about her sister every day and says how much she misses her. It’s heartbreaking. And every time she sees a balloon she tells everyone that it hurt her sister. She and Zamora did everything together, they were inseparable.”
