ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA. (Rock Town NOW) – The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what caused two kayaks to overturn Sunday afternoon in the North fork of the Shenandoah River.

 

Sheriff Bryan Hutchison stated in an email that the call came in at around 4:30 for the report of an overturned kayak near the 7,100 block of Brock’s Gap Road.

 

Deputies with the sheriff’s office as well as fire and rescue personnel responded and soon discovered a second kayak also overturned in the river.

 

Search efforts began immediately and at around 6 p.m. and two men were found dead in the river.

 

One was a 32-year-old from Timber Illegally and the other was a 31-year-old man from Fulls Run. Their names have not been released as of Monday afternoon.

 

 

 

*CORRECTION: Per an update from Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutches On, the Fulls Run victim in Sunday’s kayaking incident was 31 years old, not 51 as previously reported.
